Exhibit Details

“Places, past and present, are always haunted, all ghost stories. My art portrays these places and the people that inhabit them.” That is how Wisconsin-based artist Rafael Francisco Salas describes his works. Paintings by Rafael Francisco Salas, a collection of 15 oil paintings, will be on display at the Neville Public Museum from April 25 through August 16, 2009.

Like snippets of dreams that come back at odd times, the paintings of Rafael Francisco Salas evoke memories. Although his images are slightly off-key and mysterious, they are—like dreams—based on reality and give the feeling of déjà vu.

Mr. Salas received his MFA degree from the New York Academy of Art in New York City. Before becoming an assistant professor of painting and drawing at Ripon College, he taught at UW-Milwaukee and at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. His professional exhibition record goes back to 2001, with exhibits in New York City and in St. Paul. Since then, his paintings have been in galleries located in New York City, Brooklyn, Utica, Ripon, West Bend, Milwaukee, and others.
