What You'll See
Located on the first floor just past the Neville Theater, the bright and colorful Discovery Room delights young visitors and families with its array of hands-on learning experiences.
The Discovery Room was developed to provide a distinct area devoted entirely to hands-on history, science, and art activities for children as young as pre-school (although adults enjoy the activities, too!)
It showcases some of the interactive stations selected from prior exhibits produced at the Neville—like Culture Counts: People, Patterns, and Pi (π), and includes a series of 14 Discovery Baskets (each with a theme, such as insects, dinosaurs, or art) with props, books, toys, etc. plus instructional activity sheets.
The newest addition to the Discovery Room is the Dinosaur Mural—T-Rex: A New Generation. The mural was painted by local artist Amy Graff and donated by Marguerite Gardner. The mural depicts a mother T-Rex guarding her nest of eggs. Hands-on interactives such as a T-Rex footprint, claw and tooth accompany the mural.
