Event Summary

Karla Giraldéz, (Youth Librarian, Brown County Library), Animals in the Art of Children's Books.

I propose putting together a 30 minute Powerpoint presentation, geared toward families, about animals in Children's Literature. I will focus on noted illustrators and beloved characters through the last century, from Beatrix Potter's Peter Rabbit, H.A. Rey's Curious George, and Ernest H Shepard's illustrations of Winnie the Pooh to more illustrators such as Ian Falconer's Olivia and Mo Willem's Pigeon and Knuffle Bunny. I will also present noted illustrators, such as Eric Carle and Lois Ehlert, that don't necessarily have a particular character but have illustrated animals with interesting art techniques. And I will briefly discuss the Caldecott Award for Children's Illustration and give some examples of animal art that won the award.
