All About
The Geology Club is an activity that is sponsored by the Museum. It is an active organization composed of people of many interests and capabilities — teachers, retirees, geologists, housewives, hobbyists and others. It was organized in January 1962 at the request of interested people in the community seeking knowledge and direction in geology and related subjects. Anyone interested in rocks, minerals, fossils, lapidary or other phases of Earth Science is welcome to apply for membership.
Membership
Requirements for membership include an interest in learning and sharing. Annual dues provide partial support for the club's activities. Individual dues are $12.00. Additional members of the family may join at a reduced rate of $8.00.
Meetings
Meetings are held in the Museum, on the fourth Wednesday of the months of January through October and the second Wednesday of the month of November at 7:00PM, unless otherwise announced. Meetings include geology related presentations which are free and open to the public. Field trips, silent auctions and bus trips occur frequently.
Community
Some of the services provided for the museum and the community have included periodic rock, gem and mineral shows; specimen identification; artifact ID and illustrated programs in and out of the Museum; and a small reference library for the Museum. Club members frequently are donors to the geology collections of the Museum and also often speak to school classes. Each year the club contributes to a scholarship for a college student in the geology field.
Affiliations
The geology club is affiliated with the Midwest Federation of Mineralogical and Geological Societies and the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies.
