Exhibit Details
Trilobites are the second-most well-known fossil group after the dinosaurs and are the most diverse group of animal species preserved in the fossil record. Trilobite Treasures is the most comprehensive traveling exhibition showcasing these ancient creatures. Organized by award-winning paleontologist Joseph “Paleo Joe” Kchodl, Trilobite Treasures features more than 200 trilobite specimens and artifacts from around and the world, including the Wisconsin state fossil—the Calymene Celebra trilobite. Explore how trilobites lived and became extinct millions of years before the age of dinosaurs.
Trilobite Treasures uses specimens, text panels, and interactives to create an educational experience for inquisitive minds of all ages. These specimens are presented in a way that tells a story of prehistoric life and provides a unique snapshot of sea life covering over 300 million years and five geological eras. The exhibit also features trilobites of Caleb’s Quarry, which offers a unique snapshot of local mass mortality; trilobites of St. Petersburg, Russia; exotic trilobites; a photograph gallery; artifacts; and a dig site model and the tools of the trade.
Trilobite Treasurers exhibit tours are available for schools, businesses and other groups. This exhibit complements school science curriculum.
