Through art the Neville Public Museum collects and shares the voices of our communities along with connecting those communities to bridge between different generations.

 

Community Doors

is a partnership with local LGBTQ+ youth groups and organizations to celebrate identities and share voices, stories, and

experiences through art.

 

The Community Doors were decorated at outreach events, summer camps and organization meetings hosted by the UW-Green Bay Pride Center and the Bay Area Council on Gender Diversity. The doors were donated by the Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity ReStore.

 

In the pride camps, individual campers decorated doors to express the way they feel and who they are. At outreach events, attendees were asked to interact with a written prompt. At group events they were a community project for the expression of pride and togetherness. Each door is unique in its appearance, but many have similar themes that resonate throughout.

 

Themes of love, a shared kindred spirit for memes, feeling alone or lonely, pride in finding out who they are, hope for acceptance, and a

yearning for understanding can be found on these doors. Some doors are colorful and beautiful while others are dark and expressive.

Art is expression. We wanted to share these community voices that may not be represented in the Telling Our Stories exhibition.

Community Doors will reopen in the Community Exhibit Space on May 25, 2024.
