Threads of connection: Art, history and the American community
During the year of the 250th of our nation, this show will present the invisible bonds that weave together the American experience across time, geography, sex and culture.
The exhibition combines historical artifacts with contemporary artistic interpretations to reveal how Americans have always been interconnected through migration, shared struggles, cultural exchange, and more.
Through pairings of historical artifacts with contemporary art, visitors discover that the American narrative has always been one of connection rather than individualism, challenging popular myths about self-reliance while celebrating the resilience that emerges from community bonds that transcend political and geographical boundaries.
Kris Leonhardt-Kobs bio
Inspired by the stories her grandmother told her while growing up, Kris Leonhardt has been chronicling North American history since she was a junior in high school, through her written works and acrylic artwork.
Leonhardt attended Marquette University and the University of Wisconsin while pursuing a communications degree. She also served in the United States Army, receiving an honorable discharge in 1997, during which she created her first acrylic mural.
Leonhardt-Kobs began work as Atwood Studio in 1991 and continues to produce acrylic pieces on commission.
She also works as senior editor at Multi Media Channels publishing company.
