The Neville Public Museum
73rd Art Annual
|Exhibit Opens: 26-May-2018
|Exhibit Ends: 29-Jul-2018
Since 1942, with few exceptions, the Neville Public Museum has offered regional artists the opportunity to show their work in a yearly, juried exhibition. Originally limited to artists from only eight counties in Northeastern Wisconsin, the Art Annual is now open to artists from 40 different counties: 25 in Northeastern Wisconsin and 15 in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
The Art Annual is highly competitive. The judge is charged to select “the best of the best” from the entries received. This year, a total of 84 different artists submitted 200 different entries into the competition. From these, the juror chose 32 artists to be included in the exhibition, represented by 38 different artworks. The 73rd Art Annual juror was Graeme Reid, Director of Collections and Exhibitions at the Museum of Wisconsin Art (MOWA) in West Bend.
In his own words, Graeme states:
“To me these [works] spoke of our national situation and the fact that so many things are beyond our control. We can choose our options to make and implement change, but some changes come whether we like it or not. At the end of the day, change comes from within and if an artist can make just one person see a bigger picture, look at something from a different perspective, or consider an opposite point of view, then I think it can be deemed a success.”
Congratulations to all of the artists whose works were chosen, particularly those who were prize winners.
